pbxnsip - Extension Numbering - 'Know How' -

Extension Numbering - 'Know How' -

Many people start their extension with 100 or 200. You may want to use higher numbers because you will run into problems when using an Auto Attendant that has options 1 and 2. You will not be able to dial extensions starting with 1 or 2 from the auto attendant, as the match will always take place on 1 or 2.

pbxnsip - Food for Thought!

Paul Jamieson - Food for Thought!

A recent newspaper column lamented that "Voicemail is becoming obsolete" and had various quotes from people who were either too busy or to pompous to check their voicemails. The reasons they gave ranged from "I don’t know who is calling me" to "I never use my company voicemail because I use my cell phone".

This got me to thinking about why people feel this way, and why companies are taking advantage of unified communications and intelligent call routing. You see, the problem isn’t so much the messaging as it is in the delivery. When calls and voicemails are unified with emails, texts, faxes and tweets to your Inbox, they are treated like just another message. However they need to be delivered to different devices and here is where pbxnsip comes in.

Wouldn’t it be great if your mobile device rang as your office extension?

Sure companies have switched to all wireless, but they lack the PBX features needed for business like Auto Attendants, call screening, call recording and others. Without recreating the wheel, pbxnsip easily integrates the mobile device into the call routing. iPhones and Blackberry’s along with 3 and 4G networks aren’t going anywhere and some companies will take advantage of this and gain a competitive edge.

Call Centers are the antithesis of voicemail. They are designed to take every call and to keep them in order and route them based on certain criteria. Call Centers rarely take voicemails and that is because they have the tools to intelligently route the call to the appropriate destination.

At pbxnsip, we saw a need for an alternative to the high priced, all encompassing Call Center applications that would allow any organization to take advantage of the core feature sets that a Call Center has. Sales groups, support groups, even engineering groups can benefit from intelligent routing. One thing to remember with IP communications is that there can be 3 different ways to do something, and the right partner can help a customer do what they want by becoming an expert in the feature set of the product.

Now imagine offering these services to your clients through pbxnsip’s Hosted platform. Less hardware problems and more control over the wire lead to higher profit margins for Integrators and VAR’s looking for an alternative to the premise based solution.

pbxnsip VARS can become service providers or partner with pbxnsip powered Service Providers to offer the product as a service providing monthly recurring revenue to the company. The options have never been better for the channel when it comes to having the right solution for the customer.

With pbxnsip, there can be MS Exchange/OCS integration or straight key system functionality with Snom phones. You can offer an embedded "green" appliance or run a standard Windows server. You can give your Apple lovers a Mac Mini pbx or run a Linux Centos Hosted platform with built in software failover for ultimate uptime. Scalability, affordability and flexibility are the hallmarks of pbxnsip!

pbxnsip - UHLL License

UHLL - Hospitality License

pbxnsip have had the UHLL hospitality edition ratified and available for sale for some time now and we are pleased to say that it is fast becoming extremely popular.

The hospitality license has many advantages over traditional legacy systems and is a very useful solutions that you can integrate with pbxnsip. This offering your hotel, a management system which will allow their IP PBX to be used in a manner that they have never seen before. For example, when a room is being cleaned the attendant can enter a star feature code and this will alert the hotel management system and update in real time to tell the check-in attendant the status of the room. Very powerful when considering time management and business continuity!

What is the Privacy Settings on a trunk?

The trunk may or may not register. Besides this, the ITSP or gateway which receives the information may need the Caller-ID of the calling party to be passed to it. This is does via the privacy indication setting. Try each setting until you find the right one.

pbxnsip - Caller-ID Treatment - 'Know How' -

Caller-ID’s are usually telephone numbers. By providing your caller-ID to the party that you are calling, the called party may be able to look you up in an address book, initiate a callback, or just see who is calling.

Sometimes you want to reject calls that come from callers whose Caller ID does not reveal their identity. Most VoIP systems use the name "anonymous" in the caller-ID in such a case. To treat these calls, dial *88. If you have set the call forwarding on busy condition, the PBX will forward anonymous calls to that destination (for example, your assistant). This way, you can make sure that anonymous calls get screened first before you take the call. If you have not set the call forward on busy, the system will play an announcement to the caller that tells him that the call cannot be taken because of the blocked Caller-ID.

To allow anonymous calls again, dial *89.

If you want to place a call without showing your caller-ID, dial *67. You will hear an announcement that the caller-ID will be blocked for all future calls.

pbxnsip - What is NAT

What is NAT?

Network Address translation (NAT) is the translation of an Internet Protocol address (IP address) between networks. One network is designated the inside network and the other is the outside. Typically, a company maps its local inside network address to a global outside (public) IP addresses. NAT unmaps the global IP addresses on incoming packets back into local IP addresses. This helps ensure security. It can also cause severe headaches without a NAT filter or session border controller.
